South Island Shearing Sports Committee Members
Meetings are held in each region annually to elect delegates to the South Island Annual Meeting. Each region has two competition delegates, plus one elected National delegate - One machine and one blade shearers delegate and one woolhandling delegate from each region. Region delegates will elect the shearers rep and woolhandling rep to attend National meeting.

North Island Shearing Sports Committee Members
Each affiliated competition is entitled to two voting delegates to attend and vote at the North Island annual meeting. Area delegates are then elected to form the North Island committee, from which six National delegates are elected. No proxy votes are allowed.

Robin Kidd
Robin was head of WOOLPRO when he retired in 1999 after being field superintendent and in charge of shearer training since 1983 succeeding the legendary Godfrey Bowen. Prior to that he had been a permanent shearing instructor with the N Z Wool Board since 1966. Robin was secretary of the first National Shearing Committee meeting, July 26th 1973 and served continuously on that committee (now Shearing Sports N Z Inc) for 27 years. Robin and wife Ellie are now living in Taupo, he still takes a great interest in all things shearing!
John Fagan MBE
John Fagan, from Te Kuiti, set World record has spanned four decades at elite levels of the sport, from a string of World records in 1979-1981 to being a member of the New Zealand Shearing Foundation running the ultra-successful 2017 World Championships in Invercargill. Following his nine-hour record for ewes (623) and lambs (804) he won the Golden Shears Open title and a World teams title in 1984, and the following year helped establish the King Country Shears, which almost immediately became the New Zealand Championships. He also won farm fencing’s Golden Pliers national title four times, and was in 1992 awarded an MBE for services to shearing and the rural sector. He was chairman of Shearing Sports New Zealand for nine years, standing-down in 2012. He has been a long-time World records judge, and chairman of the World Sheep Shearing Records Society that was established in 2004.
Hugh McCarroll MNZM
Hugh McCarroll, from Tauranga, has been involved in almost every level of Shearing Sports. As a competitor he won the 1967 Golden Shears Intermediate title, in 1978 he stepped straight from competing into judging, he’s run his local Tauranga competition for many years and was a delegate to the National Shearing Committee, and Shearing Sports New Zealand from its inception in 1991. He’s managed New Zealand teams, he became a global authority on rules, he’s been the long-standing secretary of the World Sheep Shearing Records. In 2010 he won a veterans shearing competition at the 50th Golden Shears, two years later he was made a life member of Shearing Sports New Zealand and in the Queen’s Birthday Honours the following year was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM), for services to shearing and agriculture, which has included pedigree breeding and kiwifruit orcharding. He retired from SSNZ as executive director in 2017
