Saturday Golden Shears Update

A total of seven finals and two Open Semifinals will be contested during this afternoon's session at Golden Shears. Here are the names to watch in today's penultimate session in Masterton.

OPEN SHEARING SEMIFINALS:
Semifinalists have been confirmed to shear in the last event in today's afternoon session. World Champion Johnny Kirkpatrick will not be among them after his shock elimination last night.

The 12 men with a chance to lift the prestigious trophy tonight are:
Dion King (Flaxmere/Alfredton), David Buick (Pongaroa), Gavin Mutch (Scotland/Whangamomona), Aaron Haynes (Feilding), Tony Coster (Rakaia), Rowland Smith (Hastings), Darin Forde (Lorneville), Nathan Stratford (Invercargill), Murray Henderson (Feilding), Paerata Abraham (Masterton), Anthony Frew (Kurow), Mark Grainger (Te Kuiti).

OPEN WOOLHANDLING SEMIFINALS:
Preceding the Open Shearing semifinal will be the Open Woolhandling Semifinal. The eight semifinalists are Joel Henare (Gisborne), Sheree Alabaster (Taihape), Keryn Herbert (Te Kuiti), Anne Maree Kahukura (Omakau), Veronica Goss (Wanganui), Pagan Karauria (Alexandra), Sophie Huf (Australia) & Amy Karaka (Gisborne). World Teams Champion Mary-Anne Baty narrowly dipped out at the quarter-final stage finishing in ninth place.

SENIOR SHEARING FINAL:
The finalists for this afternoon's final are headlined by top qualifier and Thursday night's senior speed shear champion Nick Greaves of England along with Darren Alexander (Whangamomona), Lionel Taumata (Mataura), Tegwyn Bradley (Woodville), Aaron Bell (Marton) and Conan Te Kene (Taumarunui).

INTERMEDIATE SHEARING FINAL:

This afternoon's finalists are: Brandon Maguire (Winton), Conner Puha (Kimbolton), Josh Harding (Hunterville), Laura Bradley (Woodville), Neil Bryant (Levin) and Tom Brewer (Australia).

JUNIOR SHEARING FINAL:
2017 finalists this afternoon are: Anne-Lise Humstad (Norway), Brodie Horrell (Gore), Keith Swann (Wairoa), Liam Norrie (Cheviot), Mark Ferguson (Havelock North) and Steve Hakaraia (Napier).

SENIOR WOOLHANDLING FINAL:

Ash Boyce, Ebony Turipa, Erana Smith, Jamie McLean.

JUNIOR WOOLHANDLING FINAL:
Bianca Hawea (Masterton), Ricci Stevens (Napier), Sarah Davis (Rerewhakaaitu), Tameka Hema (Gisborne).
