The artist Joel refers to in his reply is Pagan's mother Tina Rimene, who Joel credits alongside the late Joanne Kumeroa as key influences on his wonderful career in the sport.
This week he told the Otago Daily Times Rimene had "put a lot of hard yards and time" into him; not just woolhandling but life skills in general. "She took me under her belt like a mum," he said.
That's why Pagan's words would have had special meaning for Joel.
The support and obvious respect between the two, both outstanding members of the New Zealand woolhandling community, is great to see.
