PGG WRIGHTSON NATIONAL SHEARING CIRCUIT
This title is competed for at Alexandra (compulsory),
Waimate, Christchurch, Raglan, Pahiatua and Golden Shears.
Points are scaled from 12 points out i.e. 1st receives 12 points, 2nd
11points etc. and 12th onwards all receive 1 point. Points are
taken from heat placings. Prize money will be presented for all 12
semi finalists. Points are zeroed before the semi final and final.
Total prize money is $5200. The winner to receive a trip to Australia
as a member of the NZ Team.

SOUTH ISLAND SHEARER OF THE YEAR
Shearers must shear at six contests in the South Island with the
year starting at Gore 2008 and ends at Balclutha 2009.

NORTH ISLAND SHEARER OF THE YEAR
- Only 24 entries will be accepted with a fully paid entry fee.
- Reserve entries may be acknowledged on an entry fee
returned basis should the reserve not compete.
- Entrants must compete at any 6 North Island shows listed in
the directory.
- Closing date 17 MARCH
- The first three competitors in the final will represent the North Island team at NZ Shears, Te Kuiti and Gore in the Inter
Island Challenge.

Shearers points will be taken from the heats of the following
competitions:

Points from the five best shows are totalled to find the top twelve
shearers to compete in semi finals and finals at NZ Shears in
Te Kuiti on mixed breed sheep. Points will be zeroed for both the
semi and final events. Points are scaled from 12 points out i.e. 1st
receives 12 points, 2nd 11points etc. and 12th 1 point. In the case of
a tie, a count back on overall best placings of total number of shows
entered will be the decider.
TPV of $6,000 with 1st winning $1,000 plus a trip and place in the
NZ Team to the UK.

The best set of three points taken from the heats will be totalled to
find the top twelve shearers to contest a semi final, then down to six
for the final on Saturday at the Gore Southern Shears.

lowest points from the following 8 shows:

For competitors to be eligible for the finals at Balclutha, they must
have competed in at least five of the following eight competitions:

SENIOR & JUNIOR SOUTH ISLAND WOOLHANDLING CIRCUIT
This circuit starts at Gore 2008 and finishes at Balclutha 2009.
Competitors must have competed in at least four out of eight shows.
Points are taken from the heat placings. Points are scaled from 12
points out i.e. 1st receives 12 points, 2nd 11points etc. 12th onwards
receive 1 point, for entry. The top three compete in a straight final at
Balclutha.

NEW ZEALAND WOOLHANDLER OF THE YEAR
The winner at Balclutha will be awarded the title of NZ
Woolhandler of the Year. This also carries membership of the
NZ TransTasman Woolhandling Team. They must have
competed in a recognised fine wool woolhandling competition
within the previous year.
The 2009/10 team member is Joel Henare (won with 178.790 points)
NORTH ISLAND WOOLHANDLING SPORTS CIRCUITS
Competitors have 16 competitions, (7 full wool, 1 lambs, 8 second
shear) where they can accumulate points. Points are scaled from 12
points out i.e. 1st receives 12 points, 2nd 11points etc. and 12th onwards
receive 1 point. A minimum of four second shear and four full
wool competitions points are required. The highest scores gained
from those eight events will see the top four compete in Open,
Senior and Junior finals at Golden Shears, Masterton.

Winner of North Island Woolhandling Circuit is Trans Tasman
Team Member.
In the event of a dead tie occurring in the North Island Woolhandling
Circuit concerning the top four placings competitors shall be taken
back from the highest total points accumulated from all shows for
those competitors concerned.

NORTH ISLAND WOOLHANDLING TEAM
The winner, second and third place getters from the NZ Shears
Open Woolhandling, will be the North Island Woolhandling
Team. To compete in the North-South Challenge.
TRU TEST REGIONAL TEAM SHEARING
- A maximum of four challenges must be accepted by the
defending region.
- The defending region may accept the challenges in any order
and in the case of receiving seven challenges has the right to
decline any three challengers providing all challengers have had
at least one challenge in the previous three years.
- If a region has not challenged for three years then that region
shall automatically have the right to be the first challenger of the
next year.
- The challenger must accept full responsibility for all travel and
accommodation costs for its own team members.
- The defender shall provide a four stand venue and all officials
necessary for the challenge, as well as adult sheep of one
breed.
- The defender and challenger must take into account due
respect for the Tru Test Ltd / Supershear brand when
organising any sponsorship for the challenge.
- The teams will consist of 1 open and 1 senior shearer –
1 open and 1 junior woolhandler.
- The challenging team can have one shearing judge and one
woolhandling judge at the invitation of the defenders.
- All team members including judges must have been
permanent residents in their region for at least the past 12
months prior to the date of the challenge to be eligible for team
selection. The regions are those as set out in the
Directory.
- Individual team members can be replaced or changed during
the year and from challenge to challenge. However teams must
be named at least 14 days prior to a challenge.
- Recommended sheep numbers: Maximum Open 10 sheep /
senior 8 sheep. Minimum Open 6 / senior 4 or as appropriate.
- SSNZ rules to apply.
- Challenges must be received prior to 1 Sept by the Regional
Delegate of the defending region.
- Should the trophy be uplifted at any stage the remaining
number of challenges available can be reapplied for by giving
two weeks notice to the new defender. All previously accepted
challenges shall have first option.
- Should any one region have the trophy uninterrupted for three
years, then that region must have two away challenges next
year at its expense.
- The region holding the trophy at year end, shall be the region
recorded by way of a shield on the trophy. However if a region
has been successful for one challenge during a year and loses
the trophy, that region will also be recorded by way of a shield
on the trophy box for that year.
- There is to be no prize money for any team members however
sponsorship to cover cost is allowable.
All disputes to these rules to be referred to the Chairman of
a subcommittee appointed by SSNZ.
